Enkele dagen later arriveert hij met een DC-8 op Schiphol, waar hij door zijn vrouw, zoons en staatssecretaris T.H. Bot wordt begroet. 48 uur na het vertrek van Plateel wordt het Nederlands bestuur over Nieuw-Guinea aan de VN overgedragen. After inspecting the guard of honour of the Pakistani UN-troops and a platoon of the Papuan police, he gets on the Dakota that will take him to Biak. Several days later he arrives with a DC-8 on Schiphol Airport, where he is greeted by his wife, sons and State Secretary T.H. Bot. 48 hours after Parteel’s departure the Dutch rule of New Guinea is turned over to the UN.
