Dutch East India Company warehouses
In 1606, the Hoorn directors of the Dutch East India Company had a very impressive warehouse built on the corner of Pakhuisstraat. Tools and provisions for the ships were stored in the warehouse, commodities such as spices from the East were also stored there. Later, another warehouse was built on the left. After the dissolution of the Dutch East India Company in 1795, the warehouses became the property of the state. After the Netherlands had been annexed into the French Empire, King Louis Napoleon gave them to the city of Hoorn. The buildings have been used for various purposes, ranging from housing for married soldiers to a theatre and now a dental practice.
