The North Church (Noorderkerk)
The North Church was founded in 1426 at the place where the miller Claes and his wife saw an image of the Virgin Mary in the air. The original wooden church was soon replaced by a stone church which reached its current size in 1519: a three-aisled Gothic hall church. In the 19th century, the single-aisle choir was used as a ‘church for the poor’.
